Ó hÉIGCEARTAIGH, Ó hÉIGEARTAIGH—I—O Heagertie, O Hegertie, O Hagirtie, O'Hegarty, Hegarty, Hegerty, Hagarty, Higerty, &c, (Hoverty); 'descendant of Éigceartach' (unjust); the name of a family of Cinel Eoghain, in Tyrone, Derry and Donegal. A branch of the family settled in Cork, where the name is now common. Compare with Ó hÁgartaigh.
