Mag RUAIRC—VM'Groirke, M'Grorke, Grourke, Groarke; 'son of Ruarc' (older Ruadhrac, from Norse Hrothrekr, whence also Ruaidhrí; compare with Einrí and Eanrac); the name of an old Westmeath family, descended from Enna Fionn, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages. Mag Ruairc was chief of Cinel Enda, a small territory near the Hill of Usnagh. The name is still extant in Co. Westmeath, but is more common in Co. Mayo. See Mag Ruadhraic, an older form of the name.
