Ó MAOLFÁBHAIL, Ó MAOLFHÁBHAIL—IO Mowlfoull, O Mulfall, O Maylawell, Mulfaal, Mulavill, (Melville), Lawell, Lavelle, (MacFaal, MacFall, MacPaul, Paul); 'descendant of Maolfábhail' (fond of travel); the name (1) of a family of Cinel Eoghain who were chiefs of Carraig Brachaidh, anglicised Carrickabraghy, in the north-west of the barony of Inishowen, Co. Donegal; and (2) of a West Connacht family. It is generally anglicised Mulfall, or MacFaal, in Ulster, but Lavelle in Connacht, where it is now most numerous.
