Ó GÉIBHEANNAIGH, Ó GHEIBHEANNAIGH—IO Geveney, O Giany, O Geany, Geaveny, Keaveny, Kevany, Geaney, Geany, Guiney, Guiny; 'descendant of Géibheannach,' or 'Geibheannach' (fettered, prisoner); the name of a family of Ui Maine in Co. Galway; still common in Connacht; also in Munster, where it is sometimes shortened to Ó Géibhinn, which see.
