Ó GABHLÁIN—I—O Gowlane, Goolden, Golden, Golding, Goulding, Forkan, Forkin; 'descendant of Gabhlán' (diminutive of gabhal, a fork); a rare Donegal surname; now also current in Mayo and North Galway, where it is anglicised Forkan and Forkin. Compare with Ó Gabhalaigh.
