Ó GABHALAIGH—IO Guly, O Gowle, Gooley, Forke; 'descendant of Gabhalach' (forked, peaked); the name of an old Westmeath family who, according to MacFirbis, are descended from Brian, son of Maine, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages; now very rare, and changed, by translation, in some places to Forke. Compare with Ó Gabhláin.
