Ó CUILEÁIN—IO Cullaine, O Quillayne, O'Cullane, Cullane, Cullan, Cullen, Quillan, Quillen, Collins; 'descendant of Cuileán' (whelp); a variant of Ó Coileáin, which see. Besides the Ui Coileáin of Ui Conaill Gabhra, there were distinct families of this name in Galway, Tyrone, Tipperary and Cork, and perhaps also in Clare and Sligo. The Galway family was a branch of the Ui Maine; that of the Cork of the Corca Laoighdhe, and therefore distinct from the Ui Coileáin of Ui Conaill Gabhra who settled in the same territory after they were driven out of their native Ui Fidhgheinte. The Ui Cuileáin of Tyrone were erenaghs of Clogher.
