Mac COINÍN—IVM'Conine, M'Kenyne, M'Canine, Cuneen, Cunneen, Conyeen, Kinneen, Kenning, Canning, &c, and, by 'translation,' Rabbit; 'son of Coinín' (an old Irish personal name); a scattered surname. There are, no doubt, several distinct families so called. The Mac Coinins of Mayo, anciently seated in Erris, were noted patrons of learning.
