Mac an TIOMPÁNAIGH—VII—M'Itempany, M'Tympane, M'Tempane, MacAtimney, MacAtimeny, MacAtamney, MacAtaminey, MacTimney, MacTamney, Timpany, Tymmany, Timony, Tamney, Tempeny, Tenpeny, (?) Toompane, (?) Tumpane; 'son of the tympanist' (Irish 'tiompánach'). This surname was found chiefly in Down, Tyrone and Sligo, and it still survives, under a great variety of anglicised forms, in the north and west of Ireland.
