Mac an MHÍLEADHA, Mac an MHÍLIDH—VIIM'Aveely, M'Evilee, M'Evelly, M'Ivile, Stanton, MacEvely, MacEvilly, [Stanton, Staunton]; 'son of the knight' (Irish 'mileadh'); the Irish surname assumed by the Stauntons (see de Stondún) of the barony of Carra, Co. Mayo. Many of the family have resumed the original surname, Staunton or Stanton.
