Feiritéir, Feirtéir
FEIRITÉIR, FEIRTÉIR—XII—Firiter, Ferriter; Norman 'le Fureter,' i.e., the ferreter, probably a dealer in, or manufacturer of, ferret or silk tape, if not one who ferrets, or searches out like a ferret. (Compare with French furet, a ferret). The Ferreters settled in the 13th or 14th century at Ballyferriter in Co. Kerry, where the name still survives. Pierce Ferriter was a well-known Irish poet.
