de LONG—XII—Long; Norman 'le Lung,' 'le Loung,' i.e., the long, one of remarkably tall stature. This surname came into Ireland about the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion, and was not uncommon in many parts of the country. It cannot now be easily distinguished from the many Irish surnames that have been anglicised Long.
