NOHOVAL-KERRY

NOHOVAL-KERRY, a parish, in the barony of TRUGHENACKMY, county of KERRY, and province of MUNSTER, 6 miles (S. E.) from Tralee, on the river Maine, and on the old road from Tralee to Castle-Island; containing 853 inhabitants. It comprises 27S6 statute acres, as applotted under the tithe act, of which about 600 acres consist of bog and coarse mountain pasture; the greater portion of the land is in pasture, and there are several dairy farms: the state of agriculture is gradually improving, from the abundance of limestone obtained in the adjoining parish of Ballymacelligott, and burnt for manure. Nohoval House is the residence of the Rev. J. R. Fitzgerald, the incumbent. It is a rectory, in the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe, forming part of the union of Ballymacelligott: the tithes amount to £68. 9. 10.

In the R. C. divisions also it is included in the union or district of Ballymacelligott. About 40 children are educated in a private school. There are ruins of the old church still remaining in the burial-ground.
