1923

SUIPÉIL—XI—Suppell, Supple; Norman 'de la Chapell,' Latin 'de Capella,' i.e., of the chapel, from residence thereby; an old surname in Co. Limerick, where it is of record since the last quarter of the 13th century, and of which the Supples were, in the latter part of the 16th century, one of the chief families. They lost their property after the Desmond wars. The ruins of their castle are still to be seen at Kilmocua, near Croom.
