SUATMAN—VIIISwetman, Sweteman, Sweetman; 'son of Swetman' (a not uncommon Anglo-Saxon personal name). This family, which, to judge from the name, is of Anglo-Saxon origin, came to Ireland some time before the middle of the 13th century and settled in Co. Kilkenny, where they were highly respectable.
