Stíobhard
STÍOBHARD, STÍOBHART, STIÚBHARD—XII—Stiward, Steward, Stewart, Stuart; Norman 'le Stiward,' i.e., the steward. The royal Stuarts of Scotland derived their name from the office of Lord High Steward which was hereditary in the family for two centuries before they came to the throne. Prior to the plantation of Ulster, there are few traces of any families of the name in Ireland, nearly all our Stewarts being the descendants of late immigrants from Scotland.
