Ó Troighthigh

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó TROIGHTHIGH—IO Trohie, O Trehie, Trehy, (Troy), Foote; 'descendant of Troightheach' (a foot-soldier); also Ó Traighthigh, which see. This surname originated in North-West Clare, in or near Corcomroe, where the O'Trehys were a family of some note in the early history of the district. They have, however, been long dispersed, and for centuries have been settled in Offaly, North Tipperary, Limerick and Cork. The name is now generally anglicised Troy.
