Ó TOGHDHA—IO Toffey, Towey, Tuffy; 'descendant of Toghdha' (chosen or elected); the name of a family of Ui Fiachrach, who were formerly chiefs of Bredagh, a district in the west of the barony of Tirawley, embracing the parish of Moygawnagh and part of the adjoining parish of Kilfian; still common in Mayo and Roscommon; generally anglicised Towey, but sometimes Tuffy.
