Ó Taidhg
Ó TAIDHG—I—O Teige, Teige, Teigue, Tague, Teague, Tigue, Tighe, Tyghe, Tye, Tee; 'descendant of Tadhg' (poet); the name (1) of a Leinster family who were anciently chiefs of Ui Mail, now anglicised Imail, in Co. Wicklow, but were dispersed soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion; (2) of an Ulster family who were anciently chiefs of Fir Li, in the present Co. Derry; (3) of a Connacht family, of the same stock as the O'Connors, who were chiefs of the household of the Kings of Connacht, and are still numerous in Roscommon and Mayo; and probably (4) of a Thomond family, to which belonged Tadhg Ó Taidhg, Bishop of Killaloe, in the 11th century.
