Ó Síodhacháin

Ó SÍODHACHÁIN—IO Shieghane, O Shehane, O'Sheehan, O'Sheahan, Sheehan, Sheahan, Sheean, Sheen, Shean, &c.; 'descendant of Síodhachán' (diminutive of síodhach, peaceful); the name (1) of a Dalcassian family, now very numerous throughout Munster, especially in Cork, Kerry and Limerick; and (2) of an old Galway family who were followers of O'Kelly of Ui Maine and are still numerous in that county. Ó Sídheacháin and Ó Séadhacháin (which see) are variants. The name is latterly sometimes written Ó Síothcháin.
