Ó SABHÁIN—I—O Sawane, O Sawan, Savin, (Savage); 'descendant of Sabhán' (diminutive of sabh, strong, firm; also a cub, whelp); an old Munster surname, found chiefly in Cork, Kerry and Tipperary; now almost always disguised under the anglicised form of Savage.
