Ó Roileacháin

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó ROILEACHÁIN—IO Rellakan, O Relligan, Relehan, Relihan; probably 'descendant of Roghallachán' (diminutive of Roghallach), and an attenuated form of Ó Roghallacháin. 'Munter Raulaghan' appears as a family name in Inishowen at the beginning of the 17th century, and about the same time O Rellakan, or O Relligan, was in use in Co. Antrim. The name is now peculiar to Co. Kerry, whither, apparently, the family migrated from Co. Antrim.
