Ó NIADH—IO Nee, O Nea, O Ney, O'Knee, Nee, Knee, (Needham, Neville); 'descendant of Nia' (champion); the name of an ancient Kerry family who were originally seated in the neighbourhood of Tralee, but in later times were erenaghs of Knockpatrick, near Foynes, in Co. Limerick. The name is now most common in West Galway, where it is sometimes anglicised Needham. In Kerry and Limerick, where it is now very rare, it is always anglicised Neville.
