Ó Méirleacháin

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó MÉIRLEACHÁIN—I—Merlehan; 'descendant of Méirleachán'; a Westmeath surname. It must have been always exceedingly rare. The Four Masters, under the year 1001, record the killing of Meirleacan, son of Conn, King of Gaileng, by Maelsechlainn. He was possibly the ancestor from whom the family took its name.
