Ó LÁIMHÍN—IO Lavine, O Lavin, O Laven, Lavin, Laven, Lavan, Hand; doubtless, a corruption of Ó Flaithimhín, which see; the name of a family who were originally followers of MacDermottroe in Co. Roscommon; still common in that county, and also in Co. Mayo. It is supposed to be derived from 'lám,' a hand, hence the anglicised form Hand. Also Ó Lamháin, which see.
