Ó hEOCHAGÁIN—I—O Hoghegane, Houghegan, (Hogan); 'descendant of Eochagán' (diminutive of Eochaidh); an old Ulidian surname, afterwards changed to Ó hEacháin, which see; now found only in Co. Galway, where it is sometimes disguised under the anglicised form of Hogan.
