Ó hEARAIRÍN, Ó hEARARÁIN—IO Harreryne, O Hererane, Herrerin, Herreran; 'descendant of Earairín,' or 'Eararán' (diminutive of Earar); a rare and scattered surname. It still survives in parts of Ulster and Louth. Ó hEarair, anglicised O Herrere, also once existed. In the Annals of Ulster, at the year 1205, it is recorded that Maelbhríghte Ua hEraran of Derry was chosen to be successor of St. Brendan, that is, very probably, made Bishop of Clonfert.
