Ó DUIBHEANNAIGH—IO Doveanna, O Devenie, Devanny, Devaney, Devany, Devenny, Divenney, &c.; 'descendant of Dubheannaigh' (perhaps Black of Eanach, a place-name); the name of a Co. Down family, to which belonged the Bishop of Down and Connor, Cornelius, or Connor O'Devany, whose martyrdom at Dublin, in 1612, is so touchingly described by the Four Masters. Its anglicised forms cannot be distinguished from those of Ó Duibheamhna, which see.
