Ó Comáin

Ó COMÁIN—IO Comane, O Comman, O Cowmane, Coman, Commane, Cowman, Cummane, Commons, &c, and, by 'translation,' Hurley; 'descendant of Comán' (diminutive of cam, bent, crooked); formerly a very common surname, and found in all the provinces, especially in Munster. The variant Ó Cuimín (which see) seems to have been, in recent times, substituted for it in many instances. It is sometimes 'translated' Hurley. Compare with 'camán,' a hurly.
