Ó COLMÁIN—IO Colman, O Collomayne, Colman, Coleman; 'descendant of Colmán' (diminutive of Colm, dove, a very common Irish personal name); the name of a family of the Ui Fiachrach, who were anciently seated in the townland of Grangemore, in the parish of Templeboy, Co. Sligo; and doubtless of several others in different parts of the country. It was most common, in the 16th century, in Cork, Tipperary, Waterford, Dublin, Wexford, Meath, Longford, Roscommon and Cavan. It is sometimes metathesised to Ó Clomáin.
