Ó CANANNÁIN—IO Cananan, O Conanan, O Kannenan, (?) Cannon; 'descendant of Canannán' (diminutive of Canann); the name of a family who were lords of Tirconnell from the beginning of the 10th to the middle of the 13th century, when they were supplanted by the O'Donnells and sank into obscurity. There were still a few scattered families of the name at the end of the 16th century.
