Ó Béice

Ó BÉICE—IO Beaky, Beaky, Bakey; 'descendant of Béice' (clamour, weeping). Two persons of this name are mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters as lords of Ó Méith in the 11th century. O Huidhrin mentions another family of the name as lords of Bantry, Co. Cork. The name is apparently long extinct in both places. 'O Beaky' was a Co. Wicklow surname at the beginning of the 17th century. O'Donovan gives Beck and Peck as the modern anglicised forms of Ó Béice, but this I have failed to verify.
