MÓICLÉIR—XII—Malclerk, Manclerk, Mauclerk, Mauclerc, Mauclere, Mowclere, Mockler, Muckler; Norman 'Malclerk' (i.e., the unlearned clerk, bad scholar, opposed to Beauclerk). The family so called settled in Co. Tipperary, where John Mauclerk, in 1356, was a person of importance and the owner of extensive property.
