Mag FHINNEACHTA, Mag FHINNEACHTAIGH, Mag FHIONNACHTA, Mag FHIONNACHTAIGH—IV—M'Ginaghtie, Maginnetty, MacGinnitty, MacGinety, MacGinity, MacGinty, Maginty, Ginnity, Ginaty, Ginity, Guinnaty, Ginty; 'son of Fionnachta' (fair-snow); a well-known Ulster surname. In the 16th century, it was almost peculiar to Armagh.
