Mac SÉARTHA, Mac SÉARTHAIDH—V—M'Shearhie, M'Shearihy, M'Shiary, M'Shera, M'Shire, Shera, Sheera, Shirra, [Hodnett, Fitzpatrick]; 'son of Geoffrey'; a variant of Mac Seafraidh, which see; (1) a patronymic surname taken by the Hodnetts of Co. Cork, from whom Courtmacsherry is still called in Irish Cúirt Mhic Séarthaidh; and (2) a second surname assumed by the Fitzpatricks of Ossory from one of their ancestors named Geoffrey Mac Giolla Phadraig.
