Mac PHILBÍN, Mac PHILIBÍN—VM'Philibbene, M'Phillippine, MacPhilpin, MacPhilbin, O'Filbin, Philipin, Phillipin, Philbin, Filbin, and, by 'translation,' Plover; also written Mac Fhilibín, and often changed in the spoken language to Ó Filibín; 'son of Philpin' (diminutive of Philip); the name of a Mayo family who, according to O'Donovan, are a branch of the Burkes, but more probably are a branch of the Barretts. The head of the family resided at the Castle of Doon, near Westport.
