Mac OISDEALBH, Mac OISDEALBHAIGH—IV—M'Cosdallowe, M'Costellowe, M'Costalighe, Costelloe, Costello, Costellow, Costily, Costley, &c.; 'son of Oisdealbh' (Os-shaped, shaped like the god Os); a patronymic surname assumed by the family of Nangle. It is the earliest Anglo-Irish Mac-surname recorded in the Annals (A.D. 1193). It is also written Mac Goisdealbh, Mac Goisdealbhaigh and Mac Coistealbhaigh, and has numerous variants in the spoken language.
