Mac GIOLLA na NAOMH—IV—M'Gillinaneave, M'Gillerneve, M'Gillernae, MacElnea, MacAneave, MacAnave, and, by 'translation' Ford, Forde; 'son of Giolla na naomh' (servant of the saints); a West Connacht surname; corrupted to Mac Giollarnáth, and erroneously translated Ford, Forde, from the resemblance of the final syllable to áth, a ford.
