Mac GIOLLA MHICHIL—IVM'Gillemichell, MacMichael, MacMeel, Michael, Mitchell; 'son of Giolla Mhichil' (servant of St. Michael); the name of a family who were anciently chiefs of Clann Chonghaile, in Co. Fermanagh, but dispossessed by the Maguires in the 15th century. It is said to have been anglicised Mitchell. Mac Giolla Mhichil is also a Scottish surname.
