Mac COGADHÁIN, Mac COGÁIN—IVM'Cogane, MacCogan, MacCoggan, Cogan, Coggan; 'son of Cogadhán' (a 'pet' form of Chúchogaidh, an Irish personal name, meaning 'war-hound,' 'warrior'); the name of a family in Co. Leitrim who were chiefs of Clann Fearnaighe, now anglicised Glanfarne, a district to the east and northeast of Loch Allen. A branch of the family settled in Co. Meath.
