Mac CNÁIMH—IV—Bones, Bownes; 'son of Cnámh' (?) (Irish 'cnámh,' a bone; probably a nickname). This surname is in use in Co. Mayo, but I have failed to find any early instance. Mac Cnámhaigh (which see) is a variant.
