Lotairéil, Lotrail
LOTAIRÉIL, LOTRAIL—VIII—Loterell, Luterell, Lutterell, Lutterel, Luttrell; 'son of Lutherel' (diminutive of Lothar or Lothaire, a Frankish personal name). This surname appears in England soon after the Norman Conquest. Sir Geoffrey Lutterell received from King John an estate in the valley of the Liffey which from him took the name of Luttrellstown, and was for centuries the home of his descendants. Branches of the family settled in Meath and Kildare. The Luttrells were one of the chief families of the Pale.
