LIONÓID—VIIILynoid, Lynod, Lynott; 'son of Lionot' (possibly a diminutive of Leonard, certainly from the same root, and meaning 'little lion.' Compare with Lionel which is another diminutive). The Lynotts settled at an early period in Tirawley, Co. Mayo.
