HOILEABARD—VIII—Halberd, Helbert, Hilbert, Helbet; 'son of Halbert,' (perhaps for Anglo-Saxon Haligbeort, if not a corruption of Heldbeorht or Hildebeorht, names found in Searle). The surname is old in Ireland. Robert Halberd was a member of the Dublin Guild-Merchant in 1226.
