Hód
HÓD—VIII—Hod, Hode, Hoad, Hoade; probably 'son of Hod' or 'Hoda' (an Anglo-Saxon personal name. 'Hod' was also an Anglo-Saxon word meaning a hood, cap, or helmet). John Hod was a member of the Dublin Guild-Merchant, A.D. 1226. The name, which was very rare, survives in Co. Mayo.
