Grífin
GRÍFIN—VIII—Griffine, Griffin; 'son of Gruffin' (a common Welsh personal name, from the Latin 'Rufinus,' diminutive of Rufus, i.e., of ruddy complexion. The Welsh equivalent of Rufus is Gruffud, or Gruffydd, whence Griffith, Griffiths. Grifin, son of Mariadoc, evidently a Welshman, was one of the tenants-in-chief in England at the time of the Domesday survey. Griffin is very common in early Anglo-Irish records, but Gruffud hardly occurs). The family settled in Ireland about the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion.
