GILLEÁN—VIII—Gillian, Julian, Julien, and probably Gullion; 'son of Julian' (the Latin Julianus, popularly Gillian), a personal name introduced by the Normans. Julianstown, Co. Meath, was probably the first home of the family in Ireland.
