de TREANT—XIde Trente, Trant; Norman 'de Trente,' i.e., of Trent, a parish in Somerset, also a place in Dorset; the name of an old and respectable Kerry family. At the end of the 16th century, the Trants of Dingle were one of the chief families of that county. Sir Patrick Trant was a prominent Jacobite. He was attainted, together with several others of the name, in 1691, and lost extensive estates in Kerry and other parts of Ireland.
