de SÁL—XIde Salle, Sale, Sawle, Sall, Saul; Norman 'de la Sale,' i.e., of the hall, from residence therein; the name of an Anglo-Norman family who settled early at Cashel, Co. Tipperary, and at Salestown, Co. Meath. In 1598, Sale of Saleston was one of the chief gentlemen of Co. Meath. The name is now very rare.
