de LÉIGH—XI—de Lega, de Leye, Leigh, Legge, Lea, Lee, etc.; Latin 'de Lega,' Norman 'de Leye,' Middle English 'atte Lea,' i.e., at the legh (ley, lye, lea) or meadow, from residence therein or thereby. The family so called came to Ireland about the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion and settled in Meath, Kildare, Kilkenny, etc.
